The Jaguar D-Type Long Nose Ecurie Ecosse is an extremely rare and valuable version of the legendary Jaguar D-Type race car. This particular car was built in 1956 and run by the famous Scottish racing team Ecurie Ecosse. What set this D-Type apart from its counterparts was its longer nose, designed to improve aerodynamics and increase top speed. Under the hood was a powerful 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that gave the car a top speed of over 280 km/h.
This specific D-Type won the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1956, driven by the legendary drivers Ron Flockhart and Ninian Sanderson. Additionally, the car also triumphed at the 12 Hours of Reims later that same year and participated in numerous other important races.
Today, the Jaguar D-Type Long Nose Ecurie Ecosse is a highly sought-after and valuable classic race car, and can be seen in various car collections and museums around the world. In fact, a Jaguar D-Type Long Nose Ecurie Ecosse was sold for over $21 million at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Monterey, California in 2017, making it one of the most expensive cars ever sold.
Although the pictured D-Type replica was built by the English Le Mans Sports Car Company, it remains a highly attractive and iconic car that continues to capture the hearts of car enthusiasts worldwide with its unmistakable style and impressive history.
This D-Type:
Jaguar D-Type Long Nose replica from 1962, manufactured by L&R Roadsters, now RAM. RAM is a well-known manufacturer of Cobra replicas. A tubular frame from Raynard Racing was used as the chassis. A 1962 MK 10 with a 3.8L inline engine, also used in the original D-Type, served as the donor vehicle. Power is transmitted through a 4-speed Moss gearbox with overdrive. The engine is fueled by three 45mm Weber carburetors, overhauled and tuned by Victor Günther in Germany. The vehicle is perfectly braked by four inboard disc brakes. The Jaguar sits on four D-Type aluminum wheels fitted with Dunlop Racing CR65 tires. According to the dynamometer, the Jaguar produces approximately 240 horsepower at a weight of 1000 kg. Approximately €30,000 has been invested in the technology over the past four years.
