F1 Spyker/Force India VJM01-chassis 2R, original car

This is Chassis Number 2R of the Force India VJM01, a Formula One car that competed during the 2008 Formula One season. The VJM01 was predominantly derived from the Spyker F8-VII chassis (no power unit) and was piloted by drivers Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella. The car participated in official FIA tests across three different locations over a span of three days and also took part in numerous Formula One Grand Prix events.

In the 2008 Monaco Grand Prix, Adrian Sutil started from 18th on the grid and managed to reach 4th position. However, after colliding with Kimi Räikkönen, he dropped to 5th place and eventually fell back to 9th. As a result of the damage sustained during the race, Sutil was forced to retire his Force India VJM01 chassis, numbered 2R.  Video below.

In 2007, Spyker was acquired by Vijay Mallya and rebranded as Force India for the 2008 season. Initial testing for the 2008 season was conducted using reliveried F8-VIIBs. The definitive version of the Force India VJM01, which was still largely based on the F8-VIIB, made its testing debut on February 25, 2008.

Due to cost considerations, the team continued to use 2007-specification Ferrari engines throughout the 2008 season. Despite coming close to a fourth-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix, the team failed to secure any points. As a result, Force India finished the season at the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship standings, only ahead of Super Aguri, which had withdrawn from the championship after four races.
