Original full carbon race Monocoque used in the 2002 F1 race season by the British American Racing Formula One team (BAR Honda F1).
The BAR 004 was the car with which the British American Racing Formula One team competed in the 2002 Formula One season. It was driven by the 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, and French racer Olivier Panis and reserve driver Anthony Davidson.
The BAR 004 made its debut on December 18, 2001, unveiled at the team’s Brackley headquarters. The following day marked the introduction of the brand-new team, Toyota. Notable sponsors for the car included British American Tobacco’s Lucky Strike brand, Tiscali, and Sonax. This launch event also marked the transition of team leadership from Craig Pollock to David Richards, with his Prodrive business assuming management responsibilities. The 004 marked a significant milestone as the first car exclusively designed in-house by British American Racing’s technical director, Malcolm Oastler, following the conclusion of a three-year design partnership with Reynard.
Ahead of the season, engine supplier Honda extended their contract with British American Racing until 2004, a development highlighted during the car’s unveiling, showcasing the new Honda RA002E engine.
