Force India VJM02
2009 was the second season of the Force India Formula One team, the team of mercurial owner Vijay Mallya. For the 2009 season, the beer- and airline magnate who turned F1 team owner hired German Adrian Sutil and Italian Giancarlo Fisichella to be his drivers.
The Force India VJM 02 was designed by Mike Gascoyne and powered by a Ferrari engine. Fisichella drove it to pole position in the Belgian Grand Prix only to be beaten by Kimi Räikkönens Ferrari and for Fisichella to join Ferrari for the next race, taking the place of the injured Felipe Massa.
The above makes the fact that this VJM 02 is painted red a lot more relevant. Ferrari and Force India arguably never shared more common ground than in the 2009 season. Although no engine is fitted, this is an original Force India car, built from out-of-mileage parts. It has an original floor, crash box, rear wing, front wing, diffuser, gearbox casing, headrest and seat.
Also, the wishbones, brakes and tires are genuine parts. We found this car in the United Kingdom, where it was given its red livery and was used for pit stop challenges at several events. Also, it featured in tv commercials for Gilette razors and Omega watches. This car is a genuine piece of motor racing and TV history.
